Hemorroid Carnage DEMO

Going to and playing shows in Japan, I've amassed quite a collection of demo CD's from bands trying to get their act off the ground. It's something I didn't experience much in NYC, so I appreciate the custom. Last night I played a gig with death metal masters Gotsu-Totsu-Kotsu (兀突骨) and it was my first time to experience them live. I may have heard a song or two by them, but I must have been multitasking or something at the time cause I had no idea what I was in for. They're a tight trio who play what they refer to as Samurai Death Metal. Needless to say, I'm suffering from the worst bangover in recent memory as I write this! After the gig, I talked with the guitarist Atsushi and he gave me a demo for his side-project called Hemorrhoid Carnage. Never before has a demo gone straight from my bag, and onto my speakers, but after last night's performance, I was definitely curious. Gauze - Fuckheads LP

I've been in a Japanese/Swedish hardcore mood recently thanks to finding my old hoodie with the Gauze backpatch on it and MLP sending me a Headcleaners EP this morning. Goddamn this shit is basically perfect, noisy, fast as fuck hardcore. How in the hell these guys are still going strong is beyond me. Since 1981 man! Fucking madness.

Fuckheads is their 1st LP and came out in '84. Many have imitated it, none will ever be the same. Basically, the guitar and bass sound comparable to a concrete saw, the drums sound like the were recorded with a tincan mic, and the vocals are thankfully (or not depending on your taste) missing that somewhat cartoony japanese hardcore overthetopness.

Church of Misery - Master of Brutality/Early Years

Sometimes I really do believe that karma exists. Like you know, if you help a little old lady cross the street and you find $5 later that day you can be like "oh snap, karma." Well, I musta been super good in a past life, because in this life I've been granted Church of Misery. It's like the bastard son produced when Geezer Butler fucked a geishasamurai and brought along satan and a stack of Marshalls with Ed Gein taking care of the camera work. Basically, the premise of the band is to be the Japanese modern day Sabbath and sing only covers (although never of Sabbath! According to them, nobody will ever be as good as the masters) or songs about serial killers. So heavy, so dense, so good. I upped two albums here. A collection of their early works and their 2001 LP Master of Brutality. There's seriously not a bad cut, a skippable track, or a shitty moment in any of it. Perfect for winter.

PS: Liner notes from Master of Brutality include this gem, “We hate trend. We hate corporate attitude. We hate the word ‘stoner’. Death to false stoners!! Let there be DOOM!!” How the fuck can you not love this shit? How? Cretin.

Here's a shit ton of Tom and Boot Boys. Japan is the greatest fucking place on earth. No words can describe "1234 Fucking Fuck" or "Piss Off MTV Punks" in all their glory so I'm not even gonna try.
