Devil - Magister Mundi Xum EP

Because Prolly gave us shit for posting a bunch of "shit from 2010" and then made fun of ME for posting Ghost (that was totally Blake man...) he said we could redeem ourselves by posting this Norwegian Witchfinder General knockoff called Devil.

Well Prolly, it's good. Rarely do I get to use the term knockoff as a compliment, but when you pull off WG as well as these dudes do, I'd say it's a good thing. Nothing new here folks, just old school doom metal?NWOBHM played by younger fellas. Whatever the fuck these dudes, Witchcraft, and all those cats are drinking up in Northland, it's keeping shit slow. Keep imbibing it fuckers.

Sardonis - Self Titled E.P.

Every once in a while someone passes me a band that just gets it fucking right. Last week Blake from Rats in the Walls told me to check out this Sardonis EP from a while back. Knowing that basically whatever Blake is listening to is probably better than whatever I'm listening to at the moment, I grabbed it and put it on the shelf all weekend. Man was that shit the right choice. Starting your week on this album is so the right decision.

I've said it a million fucking times before and I'll say it a million times more. Not everything needs to be new, complex, progressive, difficult, or whatever the fuck adjective describing wankery you wanna use. Sometimes, just going down the path of the simple, the easy, or the plain works fucking wonders. Fortunately for all of us, it seems like Sardonis understands this intrinsically and doesn't fuck with it.

This 4 song EP is nothing but an awesome chunk of fucking doom. Just guitars, drums, bass, and supreme heavyness. No vocals, just riffs. No stupid, drawn out, overly psychedelic spacey delay parts. No overly referential copping from one specific band. Just thick, meaty guitar tone, crushing drums, slow tempos, and endless bass grit.

Best of all, the next band in my itunes is Sarke...

Diamond Head - Diamond Head EP (AKA the White Album or Lightning to the Nations)

The band that pretty much single-handedly started Metallica and Megadeth. Basically the grandaddies of speed metal. NWOBHM legends Diamond Head fucking killed it with some of the most lasting axe licks of all times. Guess I'm on a NWOBHM kick or something lately, who woulda fucking guessed. Usually I dive in to the skatethrashcrossovercore pretty hard during the sunny months. Gotta keep it classic sometimes.

There's really enough written about this band album that you can do your own damned research in like 3 minutes on google or allmusic. Y'all are big kids and everyone and their mom has heard Metallica's version of "Am I Evil?" Just uh... I dunno listen to the real deal shit and get your Spinal Tap inspiration on.

Saint Vitus - Hallow's Victim & The Walking Dead EP

Here's my atonement for not posting up enough doom shit lately. Fucking Vitus man. So good... Maybe I'll post the first album later but for now, "War is Our Destiny" and the Sadist should do you fine. Vitus is the real fucking deal.
