NGNV Wednesday Fuck the World Mix

I haven't posted shit here in forever because fuck it, that's why. So, that's the name of this mixtape. Anyways, all apologies but I was feeling all motorhead d-beat inspired today, which lead me to listening to a bunch of shit that lead me to listening to a bunch of other shit, which lead me to throwing this all together in no particular order.
I got some other shit coming soon, and it'll be big, it's just taking a while. Enjoy.

Electric Wizard - Black Masses

I feel like we here in NY have it pretty fucking good. There's a show 7 nights a week, the chinese food is cheap and tasty, you can get just about anywhere you need without burning gas, the people are good lookin, and places to get beer are plentiful. We really only lose out on just about one fucking thing. Electric Wizard shows. GODDAMNIT MOTHERFUCKERS! IT'S THE LAST PIECE OF THE FUCKING PUZZLE!
Yes, so Electric Wizard hasn't played New York, or anywhere in the states since like 2001 or something like that, and we all live release to release to get our fucking fix while gnawing like haggard jackals at the remains of our needleworn copies of Dopethrone. It's still filling after all these years.
Anyways, when I heard that EW was putting out a new album I was pretty fucking stoked. Frankly, I wasn't super into all of Witchcult Today compared to some of the more classic albums but, as a holdover it was pretty good. When Venus in Furs off the new album Black Masses leaked, I was blown away. The Wizard has grown.
If you're looking for the next Supercoven/Return Trip put this down. If you want a rehash of Dopethrone, forget about it. Not even close. If you're looking to hear EW in the middle of a 72 hour speedfreakout then you have found your Mecca. I mean, don't get me wrong, Wizard's idea of "speed" is still about 40bpm slower than everyone else but this shit rocks. Like actually fucking drives. It's awesome. Confusing at first but once you drop your expectation of another full side of space jams, it's pretty fucking dead on.
The songs are still long, the riffs still immovably massive, the vocals spaced out and painful, and the songs never fucking boring/always heavy. Electric Wizard is still the heaviest band in the universe.
Try it on, see how it fits...

Gehennah - Hardrocker

A million bazillion moons ago, Metal Thom Skvld gave me an album by this band called Gehennah. Gehennah, with an H. Not with no H, like Gehenna. I'm glad we went over that. I summarily was super stoked to listen to it, then never did. Because I am a jackass. Well, a few weeks ago I rediscovered this album and put it on for shits and giggles. It made me shit, and giggle. This crap is fucking awesome.
Gehennah is straight up Thommetal (new term), aka raw, punk rooted black thrash that's as much Motörhead as Mayhem. Apparently this album came out in 1995 but it's blowing my mind right the fuck now. You can really see where the new crop of Bone Awl/new Darkthrone/Sarke type bands are drawing from with this RawBlackHikingMetalPunksRevival movement going on.
I don't feel like writing more because I'm headbanging right now. Listen to Gehennah fuckers. They're german or something and rad.

Black Breath - Heavy Breathing

Unholy fucking hell, Black Breath just might be the best new band around. This is the best goddamn first full-length I've heard in fucking ages. If they're not the new Entombed then I'll be straight damned. Hints of Motörhead, Crusty D-beat, and good old fashioned old-school hardcore all floating on top of a Swedish Death Metal sound.
More to come on this. Just fucking get it. Now.

Skeletonwitch - Breathing the Fire

To atone for my lack of new jam postage, today I will not only provide you with Vitus/Saviours goodness, but I will also, for no additional fees or agreements, give to you two of NGNV's most awaited heavy hitters of the last year. The first is none other than Skeletonwitch's Breathing the Fire. Although I haven't really written much about them since Scion in like March or something, long time readers know that I fall under the "I stand for thrashing black sorcery" camp. Skeletonwitch are, first and foremost, fucking awesome musicians. The dudes have mercilessly sledgehammered out their own niche in the metalworld by throwing classic thrash with modern black metal in a way that doesn't come off as fucking cheesy camp crap (...well not all the time...) and it doesn't come off as lame, underchopped not-quite-thrash-not-quite-black-not-quite-good garbage. Secondly, these dudes put on one of the most killer live shows around. It's like a wall of be-haired thrashing meat, relentlessly bearing down upon you with the fury of over a combined century of life lived in Ohio. Pretty fucking heavy man.
Anyways, "Beyond the Permafrost" was on pretty heavy rotation when I first found it, but after a while the thin production kinda fell out of favor. It wasn't for lack of killer songs or anything, just the album didn't really translate just how fucking heavy these guys get on stage. Thankfully, Breathing the Fire takes care of that shit with... uh... aplomb. I guess... Basically, it sounds fucking great, the songs thrash like a motherfucker, Chance's vox have that great 90's black wail, the guitar riffs have me fiending like Rush for oxy, and the songs never really lose their balls. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely stand out's among the crowd but as a whole, this album makes for a great listen. Grab this shit and feel the demonic black shredpocalypse.

Fukpig - Spewings From A Selfish Nation

I know I posted about this album being on Abattoir666 the other day but shit is just too good to not post. Know how most of the time when somebody tries to combine a million different awesome things in to one package it usually turns in to some sort of cluttered, way to self-aware, annoying, steaming pile of shit? Yeah, well not Fukpig.
If you can get past the name, this band is one of the best fucking things I've listened to in ages. 2 of the dudes from Anaal Nathrakh got together and basically threw Tragedy, World Burns to Death, English grind, 2nd gen black metal, Motörhead and a huge helping of Swedish death metal into the fucking blender and Fukpig is what poured out. Un. Real.
When I first grabbed it off Abattoir666 I was expecting something along the lines of super straight ahead, grinding, snarling death metal. Within about 3 seconds my expectations were smashed as the D-beat/Entombed guitar/Tragedy Meows (you know, that like meeeee meee mmeeeee meeee meee meeeeeoooooowwwww thing Todd does with his guitar all the time? Yeah, that's officially been dubbed the "meow." Fucking deal with it.) dove straight out.
I'd break down every song for you but fuck it. Just listen to this shit and try to tell me I'm wrong. This album definitely works best when listened to as a whole though. It'll definitely be one of the best 30min of the day.
EDIT: OK so I say if you like Disfear and old Swedish Death Metal you'll fucking love this. Blake says it's like a more black metal Nasum. Opinions?

Aura Noir - Hades Rise

So Haunted Castle has been trying to find some inspiration for recording lately and The other day at band practice Thom Skuld threw on some set up music that fucking nailed it. Badass blackened thrash, sorta darkthroney, totally fucking evil. Turns out I've listened to them a bunch with Thom in the past when we were building this speaker cabinet. It's like a nordic supergroup of sweet hesh jams. I wouldn't call it straight early Bathory by any means (way too slow and less hectic than that) but it fucking fits the black thrash/Venom inspiried/Bathory worship/Fenriz included mold like a fucking charm. Perfect for thunderstorms, skating and beer.

Book of Black Earth - Horoskopus

Just got word from Dav in Book of Black Earth that it's cool for me to post this album. Which is sweet 'cause this shit rules. Super hard. TJ and crew put this out last year and somehow it went kind of past my radar (maybe because I don't read metal blogs...). My boy John Prolly sent it over the other day and I've been jamming on it all weekend. Nothing old fashioned about this good old fashioned black/death/thrash band. Coming out of the Pacific NW, they definitely don't fit the post grunge doom or the crusty Todd Tragedy vibes going on. BoBE is definitely it's own beast. Emphasis on beast. They're also on tour now (missed the fuckers because they were busy showing me up by playing when Haunted Castle was playing. Fuckers. Anyways check the Book of Black Earth Myspace for dates.
