Downsided - Demo 2011

I got this sent in by Sean from Boise ID, with this email:

Sean:You probably get this shit all the time, and I really don't give a shit if you don't end up posting it or whatever, but I thought it'd be good to let you know. I'm in a hardcore punk band from Boise, ID called Downsided. We started about six months ago, we've played a number of shows, and now we have a demo up for download. If you wanna get around to checking it out, that'd be rad.

Well Sean, your not giving a fuck seems to have worked my friend. Because here's me giving a fuck and posting it. Well, maybe it was a combo of your not giving a fuck, me actually being on top of my shit for the first time in fucking months, and this demo not being a complete fucking turd. In fact, I'd even give this the "pretty fucking good for a demo" seal of approval. Go out and get this shit mixed and mastered and you've got a great start to a full length.

Long and short, this is definitely some hardcore shit for sure. Definitely thrashy, dipping in to some Power Violence moments but still solidly punk rock. Excellent pit music, I'd see em for sure.

For fucks sake man, lay down a full length.

Tafkata - "Worker & Parasite" and "Demo"

Blake, endless source of the gnarliest heavy shit I never listened to before but am slowly growing to crave, has supplied me with yet another fucking gem. A gem made out of addictive, sludgy, brutal but massively riffy fucking sweetness. A while back, Blake and I were shooting the shit about how I basically listen to Eyehategod a fuck load. He, in his own significantly more understated way, was like, "You're a fucking pussy. Put the fucking manpants on and listen to this Enewetak shit. Shortly after followed Unruh and Suicide Nation and blah blah blah. It will fuck your dog, beat your sister, and abscond with your Spawn action figure collection all in the same night." Well, maybe not exactly that but you know, literary fucking license n'all. Anyways, I listened to "Onward to Valhalla" and was converted to the ways of west coast evil fucking grind sludge.

Turns out that the singer and bassist of Enewetak went off after that band died and formed this band Tafkata (who according to Brendan, sounds like some Swahili word. He also thinks Enewetak sounds like a Swahili word... I'm calling the fucking wobblies on you son.) who are basically like the stoner-sludge side of the Enewetak coin and BOY AM I FUCKING EXCITED. This shit ripped me a new one straight from the beginning of the first song on the demo to the last song on the album. It's seriously like perfect doom/sludge riffs, with just the right amount of screamy grindy vocals, followed by great straight ahead hardcore breakdowns and pretty much every song clocks in at like 2 or 3 minutes so it doesn't drag ass.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Morne - Demo 2008

Things tagged as "Dark crust but not a Tragedy clone" on last.fm are definitely my new favorite genre of the day. That would basically say it all about this band but that would be selling them way short. I mean, violins people. Fuckin violins. Basically it's dudes from Grief (RIP) and Filth of Mankind and friends who obviously listen to a shit ton of Portland/classic "stenchcore" but have a different view on how to play it.

Is it doomy crust? Is it crusty doom? Is it straight crust? Who give's a fuck, it's gonna be amazing live. I am so stoked for this Tragedy show damnit.

EDIT ALERT: The dudes from Morne say "we don't really listen to those portland bands , we are just friends with them." Further proof that I don't know shit about fuck.

Bazillion Points Blog + a short apology

So over the last couple of weeks I've been pillaging Ian Christe's Bazillion Points blog for the best fucking demos ever. Like truly rare, impossible to come by, only discovered by the biggest fucking metal dork you've ever met shit. It rules. Go to the Bazillion Points Blog now damnit.

Also, I just wanna apologize for the massive lack of doom lately. I've pretty much been stuck in a downward spiral of nothing but Electric Wizard, Bongzilla and Sleep when it comes to doom for the moment and I can't really get past it at the moment. More doom as soon as I find something else

The Neighbors - Ekkert Helvítis Pönk & The Fist Fokkers - Demos of the Night

Here's the two albums by the Fist Fokkers and The Neighbours I said I was gonna post today. I'll throw a little review in tomorrow. Long and short is that they're both pretty awesome, pretty trashy punk rock by some Icelandic dudes. Lots of fun. There were no track listings for the Fist Fokkers sorry dudes.

Ruidosa Inmundicia - Demo '04

So in the last couple of days I've been on a crazy ass motherfucking spanish hardcore kick. There is some fucking amazing shit out there. Considering that my spanish knowledge is pretty much limited to "Dos Cervezas por favor." it's been pretty difficulut for me to find too much info about these bands other than the fact that they make some kick ass music. This band, Ruidosa Inmundicia (Rubbish noise according to babel fish) is from Austria but sing in Spanish anyways. If you check the reviews section of their site http://ruidosainmundicia.net the first one says they're reminiscent of Los Crudos which is pretty much how I felt.. Anyways, my friend passed me this album and it's newer spanish-language crusty shit. Dig it.
